Joseph M. Jenkins, MD, JD
Joseph M. Jenkins, MD, JD is Chairman and Founder of the Council for Urological Interests. As one of the country’s earliest adopters of both PCNL and SWL, Dr. Jenkins performed over 1,000 SWL procedures, taught hundreds of his urological peers the art of performing SWL, and represented those peers within the beltway of Washington DC.
After earning his MD at the UNC School of Medicine and completing its Urology residency, Dr. Jenkins entered the private practice of urology. With a focus on stone disease in a stone rich geography, he became president of a private company and then CEO of a public healthcare company. With the hope of helping his peers, he obtained a JD along the way.
Whether as a practicing urologist or an entrepreneurial healthcare CEO, Dr. Jenkins has always thought outside the box.

Karim J. Hamawy, MD
Karim J. Hamawy, MD is the Director of the Urology Program at the Lahey Clinic and Medical Center. He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Urology at Tufts University School of Medicine and a Clinical Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Hamawy received his MD degree from the Boston University School of Medicine, and completed his urology residency at the same institution. His career has allowed him to have a broad depth of experience with both residents’ training and clinical practice.
Whether speaking French to an international audience or calculating how to best engage another generation of young urologists, Dr. Hamawy’s enthusiasm and creativity capture the moment.

Louis S. Liou, MD, PhD
Louis S. Liou, MD, PhD is the Director of Urologic Research and Chief of Urology at Cambridge Health Alliance, Clinical Instructor of Surgery at Harvard University School of Medicine and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pathology at Boston University School of Medicine.
A New Jersey native, Dr. Liou received his MD and PhD in Pathology from Boston University. He completed both his urology residency and a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
While continuing his research interests in oncological genomics, Dr. Liou maintains a busy clinical practice, including a healthy dose of stone disease.

Cynthia K. Smith, MD
Cynthia K. Smith, MD received her MD from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque. She completed her urology residency and her pediatric urology fellowship at the same institution.
Dr. Smith currently is Associate Chair of Urology, Director of Pediatric Urology, and Program Director of Urology Residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center – School of Medicine, Lubbock.
In addition to her full-time academic responsibilities, Dr. Smith is a full-time pediatric urologist dealing with all types of pediatric illnesses, including pediatric stone disease.

Scott M. Cheney, MD
Scott M. Cheney, MD is currently an Instructor in Urology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He also serves as Senior Associate Consultant for the Department of urology at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ.
After graduating from the University of Arizona, Dr. Cheney obtained his MD from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Subsequently, he did his surgical and urology residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Scottsdale.
After an honored academic career, Dr. Cheney entered the private practice of urology before returning to the Department of Urology of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Phoenix.

Tim D. Langford, MD
Tim D. Langford MD, the immediate Past President of the South Central Section of the AUA, earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas Medical Campus. After completing his urology residency at UAMS, he went into the private practice of urology in Little Rock.
Dr. Langford currently serves as the president of Arkansas Urology, as well as an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Urology of UAMS.
Dr. Langford’s clinical experience bridges across a full range of urological pathology, including symptomatic stone disease.
In addition to his dedication to the advancement of his specialty through his work with the South Central Section and the AUA, Dr. Langford was recently inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, in recognition of his All-American career as a quarterback at Arkansas State University.

Laurence H. Belkoff, DO, MS.
Laurence H. Belkoff, DO, MSc is the Program Director for the Hahnemann University Hospital Urology Residency Program and serves as the Chairman of the Department of Specialty Surgery and the Division of Urology at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to being a clinical professor at Drexel University College of Medicine, Dr. Belkoff manages a division of MidLantic Urology and serves as its principal investigator for clinical trials.
Currently, Dr. Belkoff is a member of the Resident Review Committee of the ACGME.
In addition to his residency training leadership and his busy clinical practice, Dr. Belkoff has a special research interest in the use of shockwave lithotripsy in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
